This version is meant for smaller teams of 2-8. It will be up to the team as when to use the full version of ACT.

A.C.T. - Agent Coherence Template

Introduction

Decisions are catalysts that affect the velocity and momentum of collectives. Decisions (and our commitments to them) enable us to move forward in the direction we want to go. The ETHOS focuses on moving in a direction that maximizes thriving for all involved, individually and collectively.

There are many decision-making processes along with variations of those processes. Here we will outline the ACT Process — which stands for Agent Coherence Technique. The Act Process is a proposal-based decision-making process, as well as a Solutionary decision-making process.

For those unfamiliar with making decisions through proposal-based processes, consider this your first opportunity to experience and learn this style of governance!

Outline of ACT Process

  1. Prepare / Assess / Write proposal
  2. Others on the team review the proposal and offer commentary/advice/concerns/feedback (aka advice process).
  3. Submit the modified proposal.
  4. Once all edits are integrated, all involved in the decision register their response to the proposal.
  5. If all affirm the proposal, then a collective decision has been made. Yay!
  6. If there are some who have alternative solutions to the proposal, then there is a resolution process, which will be described in more detail below.

ACT

Prepare / Assess / Write proposal

Proposals are encouraged to provide a solution to something. There are cases where preferences can be submitted, however, they will require consensus to change an existing agreement that has already passed through ACT. See - Solutions vs. Preferences.
